For leatherette patches, I find that setting (for Custom Beanies) the temperature around 320°F for 15 seconds works best, but you can adjust depending on the material and patch size.

PRESSING BEANIES

1) SET TIME AND TEMP (320/15) :

We recommend setting the clamshell press to 320°F with a 15-second timer. Based on our experience with the beanies we use, this is the optimal time and temperature for a clean press without any bubbling or peeling.

2) BEANIE PLACEMENT:

When placing the beanie in the press, we position it so that the edge of the cuff lines up with the outer edge of the press. This ensures that only the area being pressed receives heat, preventing the rest of the beanie from being scorched or damaged.

3) SILCONE PAD/PATCH PROTECTION:

Whether pressing beanies or hats, we always use a thin silicone sheet to protect the patch from lines and scorching. These sheets are inexpensive and readily available on Amazon. We recommend avoiding Teflon sheets, as their texture can leave marks on the patch material when pressed.

4) PRESS BEANIE/PATCH:

The Vevor Clamshell Press makes pressing very straightforward. Just rotate the heat platen back over the beanie and pull the handle down to lower the platen onto the beanie and patch. There's no need to apply excessive pressure; we set our pressure so that it lightly presses the patch onto the beanie. Too much pressure can cause pressure lines, scorching on the patch, and damage to the beanie material.

5) LET FINSIHED PATCH COOL:

This step is often overlooked, but in our opinion, it’s one of the most important. Allowing the adhesive on the patch to cool completely is crucial. If the adhesive is still hot, it remains pliable and can easily lift off the beanie. Once fully cooled, the adhesive has bonded securely to the beanie material, ensuring the patch stays in place without risk of lifting or shifting.
